We are happy to be able to offer to you, the second volume of “Historical Models”. We have selected 13 models from among the museum’s collections, presented in chronological order. Among them are a model of a galley, and the Restoration period is represented by several models, including a model of the Valmy.
We have retained the presentation used in the first volume, something deemed necessary, as the two volumes make-up a whole.
A photographic examination of the models is performed through overall views followed by numerous detailed views that provide a close-up approach to these models. Historical information concerning each model precede the photographic records, with the intention to explain.
These two volumes will provide a better understanding of the rich nature of the collections of our great Musée de la Marine, as well as the Collection Archéologique Française 1650-1850. We address this work to erudite amateurs, whether or not they practice the art of modeling, but appreciating the aesthetic and historical value of the models in our museum.
Let us understand the Importance of this very precious and fragile patrimony, the sole witness of a vanished navy.
